A victim in a sex assault case is outraged after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office let her attacker off easy. Rebekah Pederson claimed the Long Beach Police Department presented her case to the DA’s office for felony consideration, but was declined.
Pederson was attacked on Oct. 20 in Long Beach. Surveillance video captured the suspect, Miguel Avila, grabbing her from behind while exposing himself. She falls onto the ground as Avila appears to pull up her skirt and rub himself against her while he exposes his genitals. Avila was later arrested and only charged with a misdemeanor.
After additional information was sent from Long Beach city prosecutors, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office says the case will be reviewed again to determine if felony charges are possible.
Avila has pleaded not guilty to the initial charges and is being held on $75,000 bail.
