Former 26-year-old Bismarck police officer George Huff was charged with misdemeanor simple assault for allegedly using excessive force in the arrest of homeless man Keith Erlandson on March 9. During a physical altercation, Huff struck Erlandson with his handcuffs multiple times in the face causing numerous facial injuries. Months later Bismarck Police Chief Dave Draovitch fired Huff, but he is appealing to the Bismarck Civil Service Commission.
Erlandson was not charged in connection with the arrest but was later arrested for a slew of felony charges related to other run-ins with the law.
