53-year-old Vickie Smith says has been homeless for 12 years, and admitted to police that she started setting fires in order to get housing. Smith was arrested in connection with four separate incidents of arson and is now facing new charges of second-degree arson in connection with other fires she set. Smith has said that God told her to start the fires to send a message that people like her were unable to get housing.
