St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones has decided to sweep of the homeless encampment located right below her office’s window, after just postponing the sweep last night. Outreach workers with the Department of Human Services were sent to help people located at the encampment to find shelter. About two dozen people stood in front of City Hall in support of the people living in tents last night, but that was not the support the encampment needed to stay. In the last 45 days the camp has been there, about 50 police calls were made, over 30 ambulance calls, fighting among the camp, city employees complained of harrasment, and lots of drug paraphernalia was found. The encampment had eroded any support they had among city officials, and all had agreed they have to go.
