Hepatitis A is on the rise in Portland. There have been 18 confirmed cases in the city, most detected amongst the homeless.
Hepatitis A is a hygiene disease,” said Alfredo Vergara, Portland’s director of public health. It is a very contagious liver infection. “If you don’t have access to appropriate bathroom facilities or water and soap, then it’s going to just keep spreading.”
