A confirmed case of tuberculosis exposure occurred at the Golden Hall shelter in San Diego. The county’s website states that the risk period was from Sept. 5 to Sept. 28.
The Health and Human Services Agency of the county is collaborating with the Golden Hall shelter and the San Diego Housing Commission to inform residents, employees, contractors, and volunteers who were there during that time.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease that mainly affects the lungs and is caused by a kind of bacteria. It is transmitted through the air when people who are infected cough, sneeze or spit. Tuberculosis can be prevented and cured. It is estimated that a quarter of the world’s population has been infected with TB bacteria.
