Brooks Roberts was living with his family in a national forest in May when the U.S. Forest Service and other law enforcement shot him multiple times.   The U.S. Forest Service was conducting a sting operation in which plainclothes attempted to serve low-level arrest warrants for Roberts and other family members for camping on public lands longer than allowed.   The sting went horribly wrong leaving Roberts lying in a pool of his own blood.

Brooks Roberts injuries left him paralyzed from the waist down. He has since filed a lawsuit against the federal government for $50 million.
