San Francisco Mayor London Breed wants mandatory drug testing for people abusing drugs and access to county-funded cash assistance. Her new initiative would require those who can’t stay clean to be enrolled in treatment and services. “San Francisco is a city that demands accountability,” Breed said in a statement.
No more anything goes without accountability.’ No more handouts without accountability. In order to get resources from our city, you will need to be in a substance use disorder program and consistently seeking treatment, said Breed.
There are 5,200 people who are part of the County Adult Assistance Program, which provides cash assistance to the homeless and formerly homeless. On average, people can get about $697 a month. Some city officials say that money often gets used for drugs, but Mayor Breed wants to change that.
