Police say 68-year-old Garden Grove resident Craig Sumer Elliott was out walking his dog in the 10400 block of Katella Avenue when he got into some kind of altercation with a homeless man. Moments later a neighbor said he heard three shots and ran outside to see 40-year-old homeless man Antonio Garcia Avalos bleeding. Paramedics rushed the victim to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police said the shooter has been cooperating with detectives. He had a valid concealed weapons permit and turned over his firearms to officers.
