According to a new report released by the Common Sense Institute, Colorado has spent nearly $2 billion on homelessness from 2021-2023, mostly in the Denver metro region.  This is a problem that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon while homelessness is steadily increasing.

Drug overdoses have become the single largest cause of death among Denver’s homeless causing 126 of the 226 deaths in 2022.  This has put a significant amount of strain on the healthcare system which led to $245 million in total spending in the same year.

This report breaks down why it’s so important for cities to get a hold of the homeless problem.  There are astronomical costs associated with it if nothing is done.
